The Artist:
Mary Scattergood is a primitive folk artist, living and working in Kleinburg, Ontario, where she has had a very successful teaching studio for many years. Apart from a few classes Mary’s time is now devoted to the creation of “Memory Paintings” which present a kinder, gentler world, from days gone by.
Mary is an avid supporter of buying local and eating organic, and an enthusiastic friend of Feast of Fields.
This painting, titled “Feast of Fields” is based on a very old composition called “The Folk Art Pyramid. It was created especially for this year’s festival.
Artist’s Message:
My love of folk art began early. In my first year of high school, Grandma Moses died at the age of 101 years. My art teacher brought in some examples of Moses work and introduced me to a wonderful world. Grandma called it “Memory Painting” and that’s exactly my feeling. I hope my paintings instill feelings of a simpler, kinder world and give you the same sense of peace that I experience in the process or creating them.
